- Online version of original print edition of the Special Publication of the J.L.B. Smith Institute of Ichthyology; No. 51, A new species of sand-inhabiting clinid, Cancelloxus longior, sp. n. is described from eight specimens collected between 0 and 10 metres depth from the Cape Peninsula and west coast. This species is distinguished from other members of the genus by the large number of anal fin rays and caudal vertebrae and the posterior positioning of the dorsal fin origin.
